Click The "Settings" Option located in the screenshot below.

Click "All Settings" in the setting menu.

Once in Settings Click on the Tab on the right called "Controls"

Scroll down very little above "Keybinds" and you will see "Move follower options lower down"

And there you go! no more accidentally picking up your pet! (also you can turn on shift-drop right above the pet setting)
